Holyoke Medical Center Earns ‘A’ for Patient Safety

May 22, 2019

Holyoke Medical Center (HMC) has earned an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization which advocates for public access to quality and safety data from all U.S. hospitals, released the new Spring 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades

The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D  or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in reducing errors, injuries, accidents, and infectionswith patients in their care. Earning an ‘A’ puts Holyoke Medical Center among the top third of all 2,600 participating hospitals across the country.

“Receiving an ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group exhibits Holyoke Medical Center’s commitment to patient safety and providing the highest quality of care. We would like to thank our entire hospital team for their continued commitment to providing the best care to our patients,” said Spiros Hatiras, President and Chief Executive Officer of Holyoke Medical Center and Valley Health Systems, Inc.

“Hospitals don’t all have the same track record, so it really matters which hospital people choose, which is the purpose of our Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety according to The New York Times, AARP The Magazine and MSNBC.
