Prepared Childbirth Class

Classes will include discussions on: relaxation and breathing techniques; the birth process; how the baby develops; nutrition; environmental hazards in pregnancy; staying comfortable during pregnancy; newborn care; basics of breastfeeding and postpartum adjustment.

Breastfeeding Class

The Birthing Center at Holyoke Medical Center offers a monthly breastfeeding class from 7 to 9pm in the Parent Education Room. Upcoming dates can be obtained by calling the Center. Pre-registration is necessary as seating is limited. Mothers’ partners are encouraged to attend, as both partners have a role in the breastfeeding adjustment. Topics will include whether to implement a schedule, and how to deal with various issues that might arise.

Quit Smoking Workshop

Seneca Egan, RN, BS, BSN, Tobacco Cessation Specialist

Our on-going READY, SET, QUIT! Smoking Cessation Workshop is made up of six classes designed to give you the information and support you need to get through one of the most important changes of your life. Attendees will be able to remain in the program for support after the six-week course is completed.

Each week the workshop will cover topics such as: Setting and sticking to a quit date; Learning more about your triggers and how to avoid them; How to keep motivated & remain smoke free; Developing coping skills to manage the mental and physical feelings associated with quitting.

SHINE Program

SHINE is a free service for people who have questions regarding their Medicare and/or Medigap insurance. Appointments may be made to meet on an individual basis with a fully trained SHINE counselor.

Medical Weight Loss Informational Meeting (English)

This monthly program will discuss obesity related medical conditions and the services that will be available at Holyoke Medical Center beginning in early 2016. Topics will include non-surgical and surgical options for weight loss as well as new non-surgical procedures that are being developed. Dr. Raftopoulos will discuss this comprehensive medical weight loss program and the multidisciplinary approach he and his team have. This program will be offered monthly in both English and Spanish.

Reunión Informacional Sobre La Pérdida Médica de Peso

Este programa mensual discutirá las condiciones médicas relacionadas con la obesidad y los servicios que estarán disponibles en el Holyoke Medical Center comenzando al principio del 2016. “Look Good, Feel Better”

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Holyoke Medical Center will present a beauty lesson, with a cosmetologist, free make-up kit and a great time, during a very special program designed to help cancer patients. “Look Good, Feel Better” is an American Cancer Society program for women who are in treatment for cancer and may be experiencing hair loss and skin changes. Find out more about wig care, styling and tips on how to utilize scarves and turbans at the program. The group will be small and intimate – limited to eight women in treatment.

Friends & Family CPR

The Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only® CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment by using the American Heart Association's research proven practice-while-watching technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible. Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life.

Stroke Support Group -
Open to all stroke patients and their families and care givers. A speech-language pathologist will conduct a focused language/memory/therapeutic activity for part of each session; however, the primary goal is socialization and an opportunity for patients and families to share experiences and ideas.
