Holyoke St. Pat's Road Race Adds Walk to Benefit Hospital
Organizers of the 37th Annual St. Patrick’s Road Race are pleased to announce the addition of “The Shamrock Shuffle to this year’s festivities! While the race has been strictly for runners in the past, organizers are officially adding a walking aspect this year, in response to increasing public demand. The distance of the walk is 3.5 miles.
"Over the years people have asked us to add a walk, but the past few years we've had a lot more requests and last year a group of people just walked unofficially in the race," said Mike Zwirko, Holyoke Medical Center's Vice president of Outpatient Service, who is co-chair of the race with Mike Tierney of The Tierney Group, and who has been helping organize the event since its early days. "So this year we decided to officially include a walk and give the walkers a number and runner's bibs."
Proceeds from the “Shamrock Shuffle” will go to women’s health services at Holyoke Medical Center.
“It's a great way to respond to the community and serve it at the same time," said Zwirko.
Walkers can pick up their Bib numbers and T-shirts on Friday 3/16 from noon to 7 p.m. or Saturday 3/17 from 9 a.m. to noon at 143 Maple Street in Holyoke, the new Race Headquarters. Walkers can also sign up at Race Headquarters on those days.
