Holyoke Medical Center Stroke Manager Honored As 2014 "Go Red" Leading Lady
Holyoke Medical Center (HMC) is pleased to announce that Angela Smith, HMC Stroke Manager, was chosen as one of the 2014 "Go Red" Leading Ladies by The American Heart Association.
Smith is featured with 11 other women in a promotional poster that was unveiled during a ceremony on January 28 at Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The poster will travel to various venues throughout western Massachusetts during the year.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer. The "Go Red for Women" program was created by The American Heart Association in 2014 and challenges women to know their risk for heart disease and take action to reduce their personal risk. It also gives them the tools they need to lead a heart healthy life.
The women featured in the promotional poster include: Teresa Hudson, Springfield; Bridget Glasheen and Joanna Guindon, both of West Springfield; Gerda Maissel, Longmeadow; Angela Smith and Lynn Vedovelli, both of East Longmeadow; Dee Emery-Ferrero, Agawam; Abby Mahoney, Holyoke; Janet Garcia, Westfield; Sandy Fickert, Easthampton; Maura McCaffrey, West Brookfield; and Allison Wolfe, Pittsfield.
The women were chosen from dozens of nominees based on their commitment, support and experience with the disease and include moms, entrepreneurs, health care specialists, heart survivors, retirees, and business leaders.
