Interpretive Service & Community Outreach

Have you ever been unable to keep an appointment at Holyoke Medical Center because of transportation difficulties? Do you know someone who has difficulty getting medical care because of limited English skills? Our Community Outreach Department is removing these barriers.

Community Outreach

If you live in Holyoke or one of several nearby communities and need help getting to the medical center campus, we offer a free transportation service that may be of benefit to you. This "curb-to-curb" service is available Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to those ambulatory patients who are eligible and have made advanced reservations.

For patients whose primary language is not English, we have many resources available. Our Interpreter Services are available seven days a week: Monday thru Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Weekends and Holidays: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Additionally we have Language Mediators who are staff members with interpretive capabilities in a number of languages and have service contracts with two local interpretive companies. If an interpreter for a particular language is not available in person, we can also find an appropriate interpreter through several nationally-recognized language telephonic and video conferencing services. Further, the Community Outreach staff is readily available to offer bilingual information about our health services.

To make reservations for transportation or interpretive services, or for additional information about our services, call us at 534-2607.

“We not only know your language, we understand it.”
