Pain Management & Musculoskeletal Spine Center

Stop Hurting. Start Living.

HMC’s Pain Management & Musculoskeletal Spine Center offers a holistic approach that pulls all available medical services together to help patients achieve tangible goals.

Whether treating chronic pain or acute pain from an injury, illness or surgery, providers at the Pain Management & Musculoskeletal Spine Center will offer individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.

Our goal is to have patients focus on their personal objectives, whether that’s spending more time with family, returning to work or getting back to an activity they enjoy.

Enjoy life again.

Chronic or acute pain affects every part of your life. When you hurt, your ability to work, relationships with family and friends and the activities you once enjoyed all suffer.

The Pain Management & Musculoskeletal Spine Center at Holyoke Medical Center can help. Our board-certified physician assists you to manage — or even eliminate — your pain. We specialize in minimally invasive treatments without surgery to reduce your need for medication and provide relief from all kinds of pain, including:

  • Back pain
  • Joint pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Migraines
  • Sports injuries
  • Pain caused by cancer

Comprehensive Treatment

Everyone’s pain is different. That’s why our specialists develop an individual treatment plan, with an array of options. Once we determine the source of your discomfort, you may benefit from:

Steroid Injections — Our pain management specialists offer a complex array of steroid injections to treat conditions and injuries affecting the joints and spine.

Radiofrequency Ablation or Cryoablation — Safe procedures available to destroy or remove a portion of nerve tissue causing pain signals.

Intrathecal Pump Implantation — A method of medication delivered directly to the spinal cord for chronic pain.

Spinal Cord Stimulation — An alternative therapy to surgery, the treatment masks pain signals before they reach the brain and has been effective in helping patients manage chronic pain symptoms and decrease the use of medication.

Kyphoplasty — Minimally invasive surgery to treat spinal compression fractures, a condition caused by osteoporosis.

Coordinated Care

Pain is often the result of multiple factors. That’s why we coordinate your care with HMC physicians, specialists and services to develop long-term solutions that lessen or relieve pain.

Our multidisciplinary, team approach translates to:

  • Reduced wait times for appointments
  • Seamless course of treatments
  • Thorough monitoring of your progress and well-being

Individual treatment plans may also include:

Orthopedic Care — Our team works collaboratively with the HMC Orthopedic Surgeons to provide personalized, expert care for patients of all ages in a variety of sports medicine, joint repair/replacement and trauma procedures.

Physical Therapy — Our physical therapists work one-on-one with you to rebuild strength, flexibility and mobility, while reducing pain. They’ll also provide you with a safe home exercise program.

Behavioral Health — Pain Management Center patients may receive support from our affiliate, River Valley Counseling Center.

Weight Loss — Losing weight can reduce pain. The medical expertise and treatment provided by our Weight Management Program has helped patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Smoking Cessation — Smoking is a significant risk factor for pain. Our Smoking Cessation Workshop provides information and strategies that support your effort to quit smoking.

Integrative therapies such as acupuncture and reiki may also be incorporated as part of your pain management toolkit to maximize functional abilities and promote healing.
