Patient Health Questionnaire

Interested in learning more about TMS? Complete this patient health questionnaire and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss if TMS is right for you.

What is TMS?
TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain that is thought to be underactive in people with depression. The positive effects of TMS are cumulative, over the course of six weeks. TMS therapy is well tolerated though it may produce mild side effects such as headache and temporary discomfort at the treatment site.

What Can I Expect?
You remain awake and alert during the treatments, which last just over half an hour. You are seated in a comfortable treatment chair, a small headband will be affixed to your forehead, and the magnets will rest on your head. You will feel a tapping during the procedure. You can return to your normal daily activities after treatment is complete. Once daily treatment is complete, you will schedule six taper visits to gradually reduce the need for regular treatments.

Is it safe?
FDA-cleared to treat depression since 2008, TMS has a proven track record for providing a safe, effective way for patients to achieve remission from depression. Side effects, if any, are usually mild and temporary, including headache and temporary discomfort at the treatment site. Thinking and memory are not affected by TMS treatment.

Will my insurance cover TMS?
Most major insurances cover TMS. You may have a co-pay for each treatment.

Am I a candidate?
While TMS can benefit many patients suffering from depression, it is primarily meant for:

  • People who haven’t benefited significantly from prior use of antidepressants
  • Those who have suffered intolerable side effects from antidepressants
