The quality and infection prevention departments at Holyoke Medical Center are working on several initiatives to enhance patient safety, increase quality, and reduce patient harm at our facility. Some of the initiatives include:

• Infection control rounds to monitor patient conditions in order to minimize infections.
• Continuous monitoring of patient outcomes related to complications.
• Continuous monitoring of patient mortality rates.
• Monitoring compliance with sepsis care.
• Use of cameras to monitor patients in order to prevent falls.

DNV-GL Accredited Hospital
Holyoke Medical Center has earned national accreditation by DNV-GL Healthcare for demonstrating it meets or exceeds patient safety standards (Conditions of Participation) set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. DNV GL’s accreditation program is the only one to integrate the ISO 9001 Quality Management System with the Medicare Conditions of Participation, which Holyoke Medical Center achieved in 2018.

DNV GL’s accreditation program, called NIAHO® (National Integrated Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), involves annual hospital surveys – instead of every three years – and encourages hospitals to openly share information across departments and to discover improvements in clinical workflows and safety protocols.

ISO 9001:2015
In 2018 Holyoke Medical Center achieved certification to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, reflecting the organization’s commitment to quality, transparency, and customer satisfaction. Holyoke Medical Center is the first and only hospital in Western Massachusetts to obtain this prestigious accomplishment. The certification is valid for three years and is provided by DNV GL – Business Assurance.

The Leapfrog Group 2020, 2016 & 2014 Top Hospital
The Leapfrog Group named Holyoke Medical Center to its annual list of Top Hospitals in 2020, 2016, and 2014. An elite distinction awarded to hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Leapfrog Top Hospital award is given to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals.
