If you suffer from depression or OCD, and are not satisfied with your improvement on medications, Holyoke Medical Center can help. HMC now offers NeuroStar® TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), a safe and effective treatment for depression and OCD. The TMS suite at Holyoke Medical Center is providing new treatment options for patients with depression and OCD. TMS is a viable treatment options for patients who want to achieve remission from depression and OCD, and get back to their lives. Why wait to feel better?

What is TMS?

TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the area of the brain that is thought to be under-active in people with depression. TMS is like physical therapy for the brain. For OCD treatment, the pulses reignite the synapses in the brain and can provide further relief for OCD symptoms. The positive effects of TMS are cumulative, over the course of treatment, 36 visits.

What Can I Expect?

You remain awake and alert during the treatments which last as little as 19 minutes. You are seated in a comfortable treatment chair and the magnet will rest on your head. During treatment, you will hear a click and you will feel a tapping during the procedure. You can return to your normal daily activities after treatment is complete. One acute course of treatment generally last 7 weeks with daily treatments as little as 19 minutes long. Click here to schedule a free consult for more information.

Is it safe?

TMS is FDA cleared to treat depression and OCD. It has a proven track record for providing a safe, effective way for patients to achieve remission from depression and OCD. Neurostar® TMS has treated over 200,000 patients delivering over 7 million treatments nationwide since 2008.
