Impact of your Gift
Your Gift Makes it Possible
Holyoke Medical Center first opened its doors as Holyoke City Hospital in 1893, and has been raising funds to support its mission since that important day. This full-service century-old hospital provides a complete line of award-winning inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services just minutes from home. Areas of clinical emphasis include behavioral health, critical care, emergency care, orthopedics, oncology, rehabilitation, women’s health services, and speech and hearing services.
As a non-profit community hospital, Valley Health Systems relies on your gifts to provide exceptional patient care and experiences. Your gift remains local, to enhance vital services and programs and to help us meet the outreach needs in your community.
Here’s how your gift truly makes a difference:
New Holyoke Medical Center Emergency Department
This state-of-the-art emergency department is a 21,460 square foot facility featuring a Crisis Center for Behavioral Health Services, 40 treatment areas, multi-patient trauma rooms, new advance lifesaving equipment and a patient navigation service. The facility also boasts modern and comfortable seating areas and well-equipped private rooms. We are now able to treat our patients in a more efficient and private way. Generous gifts from numerous supporters – individuals and corporations – have made this project a reality which will proudly serve our communities for many years to come.
Local, Compassionate & Award-Winning Patient Care
The quality of care provided by all Valley Health Systems’ programs and affiliates is apparent in many ways.
Holyoke Medical Center has achieved certification to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, reflecting the organization’s commitment to quality, transparency, and customer satisfaction. We’re the first and only hospital in Western Massachusetts to obtain this prestigious accomplishment. We’ve also earned a fifth straight ‘A’ Top Hospital Award from the Leapfrog Group for excellence in quality of care and patient safety.
The hospital has received four prestigious national and state awards for excellence and quality of stroke care in Massachusetts. Holyoke Medical Center’s award-winning Stroke Service has been consistently recognized as one of the best in the state for the past decade.
Along with stroke care accolades, the Women’s Center offers the most significant advances available for the detection and diagnosis of breast cancer and has been designated by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. Holyoke Medical Center was the first hospital in Western Massachusetts to successfully complete the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
As another way to serve our community, River Valley Counseling Center, a licensed mental health clinic, is the first outpatient behavioral health clinic in Western Massachusetts to have a Genoa full-service, on-site pharmacy embedded inside a clinic. This provides clients with easier access to their medicine and encourages medication compliance.
In pursuit of our continued efforts and commitment to provide accessible services, Holyoke Medical Group has expanded services in Chicopee and Westfield for primary and specialty physician services, lab/imaging, physical therapy and walk-in care services.
Community Outreach Efforts
Our efforts to assist with the needs in the community are unending by providing numerous programs and services to improve health in our local communities, as well as to increase access to health care. Hosting dinners for families and community organizations, offering free blood pressure and flu vaccination clinics, along with hundreds of employees supporting many grateful families each year for the holidays are just some of the ways we’re advancing medical and health knowledge in the community.
Equipment and Technology
Among some of the latest technologies and advances at Valley Health Systems:
Holyoke Medical Center’s Weight Management Program is one of 12 locations selected nationally to be involved in the FDA trial of the Elipse Balloon. The hospital was selected based on the experience of Medical Director, Dr. Yannis Raftopoulos, who is the only physician in the USA with hands-on experience with the Elipse Balloon.
Our Center for Behavioral Health reached a 2 Million Treatments Milestone with Nuerostar TMS, a safe and effective treatment for depression.
The Women’s Center offers 3D mammography exams along with a 3D breast biopsy system, making us the first location in the northeast, and tenth in the country, to receive 3D breast biopsy capabilities. The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center features two state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chambers. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is just one of the wound healing tools that the center provides to the patients who need it.
These capital construction projects, awards, accreditations, community events along with technology advancements would not be possible without the generosity of our supportive donors.
